Chocoemong Receipt Data: What Korean Shoppers Really Buy

Chocoemong Receipt Data: What Korean Shoppers Really Buy

Chocoemong, Namyang Dairy's chocolate milk and Korea's best-selling flavored milk, lives and dies in convenience stores. Receipt data collected by Korean data firm Team Limited from December 2025 to June 2026 shows the brand is heavily concentrated in convenience stores, is often bought alongside beer and soju, and is mostly a one-time purchase. For a brand that has sold 550 million units, those three facts point to where the next growth can come from.

Where does Chocoemong sell best?

In convenience stores. Its channel concentration index, which compares the brand's channel mix with the category average, was 2.15 for convenience stores and 0.30 for online commerce. Online accounts for 6.67% of the flavored milk category but only 1.97% of Chocoemong purchases (Mobiinside, October 26, 2026). The brand has led Korea's chocolate milk category for four years with a 24.9% share according to Nielsen Korea, and in July 2026 Namyang declared it would grow Chocoemong into a brand platform.

February was the peak month for convenience-store penetration. It rose 0.20 percentage points from the prior month and was the only time the brand crossed 2% in the channel, roughly 25% to 30% above other months.

What do shoppers buy with it?

Product in the same basketCo-purchase rate
Banana-flavored milk6.18%
Cass beer3.46%
Chamisul soju3.06%
Strawberry Emong2.60%
Shin Ramyun2.52%
Buldak ramen2.41%

Outside another flavored milk, beer and soju outranked instant noodles. Chocoemong is not just a kids' snack; adults pick it up as a sweet drink around drinking occasions.

How often do people buy it again?

72.9% of buyers purchased only once during the study period. 15.3% bought twice, 9.2% three to five times and 2.7% six or more times. Only 2.4% bought in three consecutive months. Among 1,444 two-time buyers, 920 returned in a different month and 524 in the same month. This is a trigger-driven brand, not a daily habit.

Takeaways for marketers

BestPartner's reading: the priority is to multiply buying moments before trying to build loyalty.

  1. Tie convenience-store displays and promotions to the beer and soju aisle. The occasion already exists in the data.
  2. Lock seasonal peaks such as February into the annual calendar and concentrate creative in the four weeks before.
  3. Test flavor extensions online first, as the brand did with matcha (sold out three times online) and red bean launched first on Kakao Makers, then move proven flavors into stores.
  4. For low-repeat brands, reminder advertising built around specific moments often beats loyalty programs.
